Licensing Problems for Open Battle Gaming System

My lawyer has issue with the Open Game License v1.0 that was published by the Wizards of the Coast. The plan is to look at the various options and perhaps create a new License. There will be no general rules published to the Internet until this issue is worked out. I hope to have it cleared up by the end of October.

Positive Player Feedback on System and Book

Quote from one of the September 5th playtesters:

"I really like the way your system works. I had a lot of fun and I think that the way you have the rules set up makes for a more diverse system of play, without having to introduce a class system for players. and your instructions were well put together. Helping my friend make his sword was much easier with your instructions than with the tutorials i tried to use (the ones which produced my clubsword)." - John

Sept 5th. a Success. It happens again Sept 12th.

Today's play testing was a great success. Would like to thank the Belegarth players that came all the way up from Denver.

Positive feedback was given on most of the new concepts including:

  • Light weapons: Players enjoyed the new purple class light weapons. A solution to the light weapon problem, weapons that are under 8oz do only 1/2 damage resulting in light wounds (similar to as Dagorhir/Belegarth thrusting damage to limbs). It was designed to allow better intermix of Amtgard tech with Dagorhir/Belegarth tech. The play testers really enjoyed the all purple weapon battle because of the way it allows fighting to continue longer. And the way it encouraged you to role-play your wounds.

  • Throwing weapons: Play testers gave a definite thumbs up to the twirling weapons which are thrown weapons between 12 and 24 inches in length and weigh less than or equal to 6 oz. Fully padded with 2 1/2 inch minimum diameter. Players particularly liked that they are cored weapons (unlike Amtgard thrown weapons) so they can be used as hand to hand weapons but also be thrown.

  • Arrow bounce back eye protectors: People felt it did make the archery more difficult, but was something that players could become accustomed to. General consensus was it was the correct idea from the safety standpoint.

  • Crossbow at 450 in-lb: This is the Amtgard standard, but few people have had exposure to it. Everyone was comfortable with this level of power. General agreement, no discharging at players closer than 15 feet. It wallops you at 10 foot, but will not cause injury. Feedback: Players should receive instruction on the use of crossbows and demonstrate they know the rules.

If you missed it and want to check out the new game elements, I am hosting play testing again next Saturday the 12th. Hope to see you there.
